BookShelf is a Chrome browser extension that helps users track their reading progress across web novel platforms such as RoyalRoad and Amazon/Kindle. This privacy policy explains how BookShelf handles your data.

2. Data Collection

BookShelf does not collect any personal data.

Specifically, BookShelf does not:

Collect personally identifiable information (PII)
Track your browsing activity
Use cookies for tracking or analytics
Send any data to external servers
Use any third-party analytics or tracking services
Require user registration or accounts

3. Data Storage

All data you enter into BookShelf (books, authors, reading progress, settings, and cover images) is stored exclusively on your local device using the following browser APIs:

This data is never transmitted to or accessible by the extension developer or any third party. If you uninstall the extension, all locally stored data is permanently deleted by Chrome.

4. Network Requests

BookShelf makes network requests only when you explicitly trigger one of the following actions:

Auto-Fill: When you paste a URL and press the "Auto-Fill" button, BookShelf fetches the publicly available book page from RoyalRoad or Amazon to extract book metadata (title, author, cover image URL, description, chapter list).
Update Check: When you click "Check updates", BookShelf fetches the current chapter list from RoyalRoad to determine if new chapters have been published.
Cover Download: When a book is added, BookShelf may download the cover image from the URL provided on the book's public page and stores it locally.

These requests are made directly from your browser to the respective websites (royalroad.com, amazon.com/amazon.de). No data passes through any intermediary server. No login credentials or personal information are accessed or transmitted.

5. Permissions

BookShelf requests the following Chrome permissions:

No permission is used to monitor, track, or modify your browsing behavior.

6. Data Export & Import

BookShelf provides a built-in export/import feature. When you export your data, a JSON file is generated and downloaded directly to your device. This file contains your books, authors, settings, and cover images (as Base64). The export is handled entirely within your browser — no data is uploaded anywhere.

7. Third-Party Services

BookShelf does not use any third-party services, SDKs, APIs, or analytics tools. There is no Google Analytics, no Firebase, no telemetry, and no crash reporting.

8. Children's Privacy

BookShelf does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. Since no personal data is collected from any user, no age-specific data handling is required.

9. Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
